Rock on Over to Rockin Tacos

On Wednesday my husband I decided to go try out Rockin Tacos on the Boardwalk in Ft. Walton Beach.  It was about 5:30 when we got there and the place was hopping. Even with all the people in the restaurants we were seated very quickly. We opted to eat outside even though it had just rained because the view is phenomenal. A gentleman was wiping down all the tables and chairs due to the rain and stopped and spoke to people as he went. The staff all seemed very helpful and friendly.

One of the first things I noticed was the bar. Rockin Tacos has an extensive supply of liquors to choose from to please any connoisseur. You can walk right up from the beach and sit and sip your drink while looking at the beautiful Gulf waters.

We were served salsa and chips right away and those were quickly eaten. The chips were crispy and considering that we were both quite hungry were a welcomed starter. My husband ordered the Tacos de Pescado which featured fresh Gulf Mahi over a cabbage slaw. It was served with a bit of Spanish rice and 2 tacos for $13.99. My husband has a big appetite so the amount of food was a bit sparse for him. He thought the tacos were pretty good standard bar food. We were both a bit disappointed by the rice that seemed almost like it was prepackaged. I ordered the Taco Combo for $11.99 with one shrimp taco and one steak taco. Both were served with Napa cabbage in the tacos, rice on the side, as well as guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. On the menu the shrimp are billed as “lightly blackened bay shrimp” which was disheartening since we are used to our amazing, fresh Gulf shrimp caught right here in the Destin/Ft. Walton area. It was still pretty good considering that the shrimp were not caught locally. The guacamole was fresh and the cilantro with the pico was fresh and a great side to the tacos. The steak taco was the highlight of both of our plates. The steak was tender and juicy and not overdone. It had a really great flavor and I would definitely order it again.

Overall, our experience with Rockin Tacos was good. The view is amazing and it has easy beach access. The food is good for when you come in off the beach after a long day in the sun and want to watch the sunset with a drink in hand. Order yourself a couple of tacos and if you’re here on vacation, dream about moving down here and watching those sunsets all the time. That’s what we did!
